Granite Wedges
We can engrave the letters directly into the granite wedge. We do this using our sand blasting technique for larger letters and engraver for small lettering. The letters are then painted - black, dark blue, grey, cream, white, silver or gold. We also have Farrow & Ball match - Lichen which is a pale green and F&B Purbeck Stone which is a light grey.
We can use any of the fonts on our list but for the smaller lettering suggest using a bolder font without serifs.

More About Images
When adding an image to a memorial stone wedge, we typically sand carve the image along with the wording. However, for highly detailed images, this method is not suitable. To address this, we’ve developed techniques for creating intricate designs. One option is to inlay a painted panel, which is then laser-etched to reveal fine details. This method also allows for the inclusion of a small block of text, such as a poem. Another technique involves impact engraving, where a diamond-tipped needle strikes the granite to produce detailed etchings.
We are also able to include full colour photo plaques in either ToughPrint or Porcelain. Porcelain is mare tradtional and has been used in Italy for a long time. ToughPrint is also fully weatherproof has more vibrant colours.

The Tall Engraved Wedge is 300mm at back and 260mm at front
Dark Grey Wedges are not available in the portrait sizes.
The blank granite wedges can be used as plinths for mounting plaques in other materials
such as stone-like corian, bronze or an engraved plaque.

The blank granite wedges arrive highly polished, but some customers prefer a more natural finish. We offer the option to sandblast the surface, revealing the raw granite underneath, for an additional cost of £5. While the sandblasted finish looks attractive on Celtic Grey and Dark Grey Granite, most people tend to prefer the sleek, glossy finish of black granite. Please note that green algae will grow more quickly on the unpolished, natural surface.
Slate Wedge Memorials
These slate wedges are particularly striking, especially when wet, as the natural layers of slate on the surface become incredibly beautiful. The surface is polished to a silky smooth finish. However, please note that slate contains natural features and variations. Click here to see an example.
Engraved lettering on slate wedges can be as small as 15mm, which is smaller than what's possible on granite. For smaller text, we recommend using simple, sans-serif fonts for clarity. As a standard, the letters can be left unpainted or painted in black, grey, cream, white, gold, or select Farrow & Ball colors like Purbeck Stone (light grey) or Lichen (light green). For projects requiring extensive text or finely detailed images, we can inlay a coloured panel, which is then laser-etched for precision. These panels are available in any of our stock colours, with white and light grey being particularly popular choices. The panel can cover most of the surface or be a smaller inlaid shape, such as an oval, square, or rectangle. This method is ideal for intricate images like line drawings or for adding a poem or other detailed text.
